The Somerville Museum 2019 Business Award winners were announced at the Annual Holiday Party on December 13. Congratulations to Nellie’s Wildflowers.
About Nellie’s Wildflowers
Nellie’s Wildflowers was founded by Joyce McKenzie in 1990 — 2020 marks the business’s 30th year in Somerville. The shop is located between Davis Square and Teele Square on Holland Street. McKenzie was born in Somerville, and her store is named after her late maternal grandmother, an avid gardener and Scottish immigrant who moved to Porter Street in 1922. McKenzie grew up as one of five children, and her grandmother came to live with her family. Often, female relatives would visit from Scotland — many of the family’s male relatives had died in World War I. McKenzie loves arranging flowers, and believes in the importance of customer service and building relationships.
