The past few weeks we’ve been busy with some finishing touches. We’re preparing for our Donor Celebration event scheduled for mid-October. All those who have donated to the Access for All & More campaign over the past few years have received an invitation to this private event. And donors who have given $1,000 or more will be commemorated on an outdoor donor recognition display to be installed soon. Did you receive an invitation? If not, it’s not too late to donate and join us for this celebration. Just use the button below or email us at info@somervillemuseum.org for more information. If you live in Somerville, you will also notice a large postcard in your mail this week. This is a city-wide mailing that we designed to help raise awareness about the Museum in the community as well as a call for more donations to help us close the gap in the fundraiser. We’ve raised 95% of our goal – but still need your help!

In preparation for this donor celebration, we’ve been busy completing a few more projects including our garden. You might not have been able to walk by the Museum lately with all the city street work, but if you did venture that way you may have noticed our beautiful new fence. Designed by our team, fabricated and generously donated by Elio LoRusso of Somerville Ornamental Iron Work, Inc. This fence makes all the difference and we’re so grateful to Elio and his team for their donation and continued support.

Our landscapers are also hard at work. Saverio Fiorentino from Italian Design Masonry and his team have been installing a new brick patio, benches, steppingstones, and some other details in our new garden area. They’re working hard through this week’s rain to complete all the items so that Robert and his team from Your Garden Curator can install all the bushes and plants we have designed for the space. We’re excited to have an outdoor space for events, programs, and artwork.

With the holidays approaching we’re promoting the renovated spaces in the Museum for rentals. We’re available for smaller rentals like company events, meetings, birthday parties, and weddings. Want to learn more? Just fill out this form and let us know what you’re thinking for your next event.

Last, but far from least this week, we’ve been actively promoting our current exhibition, Sanctuary City, curated by Julia Csekö. This Saturday, 10/8 we’re hosting a performance by Lani Asuncion called Duty-Free Paradise. The event begins at 7pm, but we encourage you to arrive early and purchase tickets in advance.
