What a week. This was the week we were able to open our new entry and renovated spaces to the public. And we did so while also showcasing some amazing – and unique – local artwork by artists involved with the Somerville Open Studios (SOS): First Look Exhibit.

This week also marks the first time the Somerville Museum has ever been truly accessible to the public with a working elevator. It’s taken years of planning, designing, fundraising, and now after months of installation and waiting for inspections, the elevator is complete and working! All finishes and details were thoughtfully selected, and the finished product is not only functional but aesthetically pleasing. We couldn’t have accomplished this huge feat without the help of our architects, Peter Quinn Architects, contractors, Stack + Co., and elevator subcontractor, Garaventa Lift. We are so grateful for this team of dedicated individuals who have been working with us for years and shown great skill, creativity, and patience throughout the entire process. We’ll be highlighting more of the team in future posts.

Kevin and Adam from Garaventa checked in today to make sure everything was in working order.

So, if you haven’t visited the renovated spaces and the Somerville Open Studios: First Look Exhibit be sure to come by this week!
