Community Relations Manager, 15 hrs/wk

Part-time position: 15 hours per week

The Somerville Museum seeks a dynamic individual with a passion for our mission to build relationships in the community including visitors, members and potential members, potential donors, and community partners.  

Mission

As the only membership supported, community-based cultural institution of its kind in Somerville, the Somerville Museum is the City of Somerville’s mirror, playing a central role in preserving the past, reflecting the present, and helping to shape the future of this diverse urban community of 81,000. Through its innovative programming, the Museum seeks to engage our audience in an on-going dialogue with local artists, scholars, and educators with the larger aim of fostering cultural education and understanding.

Core Responsibilities

Membership and Donor management 

  • Process membership sales 

  • Manage membership database in Past Perfect

  • Send renewal reminders

  • Membership correspondence and communication

  • Create relationships with members and encourage engagement and membership upgrades

  • Organize member events

  • Send thank you notes to Donors

  • Develop relationships with businesses and organizational partners

Communications 

  • Maintain and update mailing list in a timely manner and send thank you notes following events

  • Create content for social media and post regularly along with other staff

  • Create content for blog along with other staff 

  • Manage online listings

  • Send press releases


Volunteer Management 

  • Volunteer management + scheduling

  • Volunteer training

  • Volunteer engagement

Front Desk Management 

  • Front Desk coverage (shared with volunteers)

  • Greet and get to know members and visitors

  • Sell admissions, memberships and merchandise

  • Field public inquiries 

Administration

  • Additional administrative support or other tasks may be assigned based on organizational needs or skills and interest.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in History, Arts Administration, Museum Studies or related field.
Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends within a 15 hour work week
Flexibility, ability to adapt to changing priorities and to work as part of a team
Great interpersonal and communication skills
Strong organizational and administrative skills
Experience with social media including instagram, facebook ( tik tok,and you tube a plus)
Fluency and aptitude with technology including Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud.
Knowledge of Past Perfect, Squarespace, Square and other museum systems a plus
Somerville residency or strong community connections in Somerville a plus
Multiple languages a plus
Fundraising experience also a plus

Compensation
$20/hr

Position available immediately.
