The Great Flu Pandemic of 1918 hit the Boston area with particular fierceness. As we endure the COVID-19 pandemic, this might be a good time to reflect on the terrible damage wrought by that earlier crisis, and assess the extent to which state authorities of that era were able, in the face of fear and uncertainty, to come to grips with an epidemic of unprecedented ferocity.

The Somerville Museum is collaborating with historian, Dan Breen, to bring you a virtual lecture on “Boston, Somerville and the 1918 Influenza Pandemic.” This event was free of charge, but we hope attendees and members of the community will help the Museum through this challenging time by donating to our COVID-19 Emergency Fund: https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/somerville-museum-covid-19-emergency-fund
