Happy February! A little daunted by the recent storm but we’re looking forward to this month for a few reasons. Every day we’re getting closer to completing the renovation and because we have an exciting exhibition installed, Bittersweet.
This week there were too many details happening on site to mention them all. Painters, millworkers, tile installers, and carpenters were all vying for space to finish their work. We’re still anxiously waiting on the reception desk delivery and installation, but we’re struck by the differences we’re seeing on site. Below is a before and after image of the hallway on the second floor. This isn’t a space that most of the public has seen but almost every inch of it was touched and changed. From the flooring, doors, hardware, and paint – it looks like a completely different space. Before the renovation this area was filled with some clutter and a bit depressing. Now, its bright and fresh and we’re working on a semi-permanent exhibition for these walls that outline the history of the Museum (including some pieces and images from our collection) and the history of the City of Somerville. It will soon be another space that the public can enjoy.
Meanwhile, we’re working on some exciting programming for our Bittersweet exhibition:
