We were busy this week with a lot of behind-the-scenes fundraising activity for the Access for All & More Campaign and preparation for Phase Two of the project. We are still actively raising funds to start Phase Two which will include a renovation of the collection storage area in the basement. This will allow a safe and sustainable home for all the Museum’s collection items. We’re also working on inputting all the items into a new database with images so our collection will ultimately be more physically and digitally accessible to our staff, volunteers, researchers and ultimately, the community. So, while the Museum looks great, there is still so much we’re planning on doing!
In other news, there is one more week to visit the Somerville Open Studios: First Look Exhibit. Don’t miss out on this wonderful collection of local artwork.
Open hours this week:
Thursday (5/12) 2–7pm
Friday (5/13) 2–5pm
Saturday (5/14) 12–5pm
We’re also in planning mode for our upcoming June exhibitions. Firehouse Reels: 40 Years of SCATV and Space Invader: An Immigrant Experience Through Immersive Art both open to the public on Friday, June 3rd and are on view through Saturday, July 9th. We reserve the month of June for community and experimental projects. Since we plan our exhibition schedule at least two years out we are already planning our next Basement Project for June 2023 and a collaboration with Padres Latinos for June 2024.
