Lots of changes are happening this summer, and we couldn’t be more excited. First, the old carpets in the galleries were removed last week, leaving us with a very unfinished floor of cement and old adhesive. But also, the perfect drop cloth for the painting that is happening this week. Our painters are giving our gallery spaces a face lift and the spaces already feel years younger ;) We’re also happy to report that many items on our recent Historic Preservation Commission application were approved by the committee this week. This includes bricking in some of the basement windows to better control the climate in the collection storage area while also adding symmetry to the Central Street façade. They also approved our garden plans with fence – though we need to revise our paver and steppingstone material. We’re delighted we’re able to move forward with these plans and can’t wait until the spaces are ready to start using. Stay tuned for more fun summer updates to come!

Garden plan includes a patio area for events, sculptures, etc. There’s also the addition of a fence donated by Somerville Iron Works, ground cover, shrubs, bushes, and flowering plants.

During these renovations the Museum is closed to the public, but mark your calendars for our upcoming exhibition.
