This has been quite a summer for us. We closed the Museum during July and August to have the time to refresh the gallery spaces. Between coordinating with contractors on replacing the flooring and painting we realized several other details we needed to focus on. It was like opening a can of worms, but in the best way because it meant a new life for the Museum’s galleries. With the investment of the new wood flooring we began to think about all the items that live on the floors in the gallery spaces. We decided to change out the casters on the Main Gallery’s large moveable walls (which were now about 40 years old!) making them safer for the floor but also much easier to move. This was no small feat, and we have to thank volunteers Marc Roy, Steven Cabral, and Jerermy Andreatta for their efforts and their careful maneuvering. We had our floor outlets replaced and updated. We repurposed the interior partitions in the Small Gallery to make them mobile allowing the space to be more flexible – another thank you to Marc Roy and his team in helping to do this, and to our Asst. Director who patched and painted them to ensure they were ready for exhibition installation. Other small details included painting some of the older wall outlets to match the walls and new felt feet on old chairs and pedestals. Small things that will make a difference in upkeep. This attention to detail is important and being a mostly volunteer organization, we’d be remiss to not also mention the efforts of Cynthia Frawley, Karen Molloy, and Christina Mirra who painted outlet covers, organized old extension cords, and cleaned and touched up baseboards. Thank you to everyone who is helping to make this space better than ever. Stay tuned because there’s more to come!

As we finish up these details we’re also actively working on installing the next exhibition, Sanctuary City, which opens to the public on Friday, September 16th.
