Welcome Maddie Short
Maddie Short is excited to join the Somerville Museum as the Education and Outreach Coordinator! After graduating from Simmons University with a B.A. in History, Maddie moved to Somerville and completed two years of Americorps service with College Advising Corps - Boston University, serving the Somerville High School community as a near-peer adviser to prepare seniors and juniors to take steps toward achieving their post-secondary goals.
After SHS students introduced them to the Local History Club, Maddie began volunteering at the Somerville Museum, learning the ins and outs of the museum world. In recent years, Maddie’s favorite exhibits to assist with have been Museo Inmigrante, BLUE, and Above and Beyond.
Inspired by their experience volunteering at the Somerville Museum, Maddie enrolled in the Tufts University M.A. in History and Museum Studies program.
Maddie’s research background is in local history wherever that may be; from their hometown in New Hampshire, to the Simmons campus, to Boston’s West End, to the roots of the Tufts campus. They also research the development of the public education system in rural New England. Maddie is excited to join the team to develop SOM250 programming and contribute to the region’s understanding of Somerville as a cornerstone city in early America.
